President’s Message – November 2019
Welcome to November.
I trust many of you got to enjoy the Geelong Cup as part of the Spring Racing Carnival . We were privileged with a picture perfect day which brought many of the region’s business owners to the Racing Club.
The October meeting was a great opportunity to hear from Denis Rose. We learned of his personal journey to secure the World Heritage listing for Budj Bim, which is the only Australian World Heritage property listed exclusively for its Aboriginal cultural landscape, wiith evidence of their activities in the area dating back over 6000 years. It has now been recognised that the Gunditjmara people created one of the earliest living examples of aquaculture in the world.
And now for some farewells and welcomes. Many of you will remember the horrific bicycle accident that our Club Committee member, Daniel Nardi suffered. Daniel is home and has staged a remarkable recovery that requires he spends more time with his family. The Committee wish Daniel all the very best as he retires from the team.
Stephanie Beitzel has acted as our Executive Officer for the past four months and will now resume her duties as CEO of Elf Squad and Technology for Geelong. Many of you know long standing Club member, Jon Mamonski, who managed the Green Room at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre and who has been a committed Club member for many years. Jon will take on the helm of Executive Officer so please make him welcome as he takes over the reins at our November meeting.
This November we look forward to inducting many new members to the club and, as the day deserves hearing from Jacquie Scammell and Mark Prideux from the Defence Reserve Support Council.
As the year will be quickly coming to a close, be sure to book early with partners or colleagues for the hilarious David Hughes at the Club Christmas dinner, Monday 9 December. This will sell out.
Again, we thank all our members that have been inviting guests in record numbers to our dinner meetings. This has already resulted in many new members joining our club.
I look forward to seeing you all at our 11 November meeting
