Presidents Message

Greetings, we are encouraged that the State is quickly pushing to achieve the 80% vaccination rate that will allow us to return to our dinner meetings in the future.

This month, with only limited numbers allowed for events, our October meeting with special guest speaker Tamsin Lawrence from the Australian Chamber of Commerce will be held online on zoom at 5.30 pm on Monday 11th October 2021. Click on the link above to join the meeting

Tamsin Lawrence is Deputy Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Workplace Relations team.   COVID-19 continues to challenge businesses everywhere, with employers and businesses needing to stay on top of the latest public health orders and manage their workforce within the constraints of a global pandemic.

Tamsin will share her insights into some of the important changes in workplace law, industrial relations, and employment arrangements in a post-Covid-19 world, particularly around vaccinations of employees and customers and what it means for your business. If you know someone interested in joining us and hearing from Tamsin, Guests can register to participate in this virtual event for $20 – Click here for guest registration.

A new and welcome addition to the Geelong Business Club website is a member portal allowing members to find other members outside of our monthly dinner. Have you added your details yet? You can register on the portal via this link. The password to log in is: Herath2021

As we move towards enjoying new freedoms from November, we are aware these freedoms will not be for all. This year, we anticipate that our remaining meetings may require attendees to be double vaccinated as the vaccine passport is quickly gaining momentum. While we have not been mandated by the Football Club as yet that only fully vaccinated individuals may attend, this may be on the horizon. We want all our members to have the opportunity to attend our dinner meetings as we reconvene.

Further, the Club is keen to ensure members feel they derive value and quality from our monthly dinners. Within the next two weeks, we will be sending you a member survey around our dinner meetings. GMHBA Stadium is a prestigious location; however, the dinner fees we incur continue to rise, and the Club currently provides a significant subsidy to members. We will need to weigh up the venue and price, ensuring the dinners remain accessible in terms of value and budget to our members moving forward.

Finally, please note the date change for our November meeting to coincide with the state restrictions, and excitingly, we have our 60th Gala penned for December. We will be going off-site to enjoy dinner and entertainment, which will be a fitting end to 2021 and the opportunity to celebrate our milestone anniversary.
